Dolly Parton has never been shy about sharing pieces of her life with fans, but one detail remained unusually hard to see. Two photographs taken years apart now offer a rare glimpse of the body art she preferred to keep beneath her famously polished wardrobe.
The first photograph was taken on March 30, 2006, when Parton reunited with her 9 to 5 co-stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin at the film’s 25th Anniversary Special Edition DVD launch party in Hollywood.
The three actresses appeared to be enjoying themselves as they smiled and laughed for photographers. Parton wore an all-white ensemble featuring a long-sleeved blouse, fitted pinstriped vest and coordinating pants, with metallic embellishments and a decorative chain adding extra sparkle.
The outfit covered much of Parton’s arms and shoulders, consistent with the glamorous, carefully styled looks she has favored throughout her career. Yet tucked into the image is a small glimpse of body art around her upper arm and shoulder area.
It is subtle enough to miss in the full photograph, but a closer look makes the detail much more apparent.
